Name: Barium sulfate
Molecular formula: BaSO4
CAS No.: 13462-86-7
Description:
Barium sulfate 98% is an inorganic compound that exists as colorless orthorhombic crystals or amorphous white powder. It is soluble in hot concentrated sulfuric acid but nearly insoluble in water, dilute acids, and alcohols. It tends to agglomerate during drying. Its chemical properties are stable.
Specifications
Application
1. Painting industry: Barium sulfate, as a physical pigment, can improve the thickness, wear resistance, water resistance, heat resistance, and surface hardness of paint films. It can effectively protect the paint film from light aging, enhance the durability and color stability of the coating. In addition, due to its low oil absorption and high filling amount, the use of barium sulfate can reduce coating costs. Can replace some titanium dioxide, improve whiteness while maintaining coverage. It is also used to control the glossiness and substrate requirements of high solid glossy topcoats, as well as to improve the luminosity and silk texture effect of latex paints.
2. In medicine: Barium sulfate is used as a gastrointestinal contrast agent because it can absorb X-rays in the gastrointestinal tract, making it more visible.
3. In industry: its powder form can be used as a raw material or filler for paints, inks, plastics, rubber, and batteries, as a surface coating agent for image paper and copperplate paper, and as a sizing agent for the textile industry.
4. In glass products, barium sulfate is used as a clarifying agent, which can have the effect of defoaming and increasing luster.
5. It is also used in industries such as ceramics, enamel, spices, and pigments, and is also a raw material for manufacturing other barium salts.
Package & Storage
Barium sulfate is packaged in lined plastic woven bags or kraft paper bags, with a net weight of 25 kg.
Barium sulfate 98% needs to be kept away from sparks and heat sources. The packaging requires sealing and must not come into contact with air. It should be stored separately from reducing agents, flammable and combustible materials, metal powders, etc. Store in a ventilated and dry warehouse. Do not store or transport together with acids and edible items. Handle with care during loading and unloading to prevent packaging damage.
